About this experience
Are you curious about indigo shibori? Come to this class where we’ll walk you through the art of manipulating cloth through tying and knotting. We’ll show you three classic patterns and you’ll get to use one (or anything your creative brain can dream up!) to create your own hand dyed bag.
In this class, you will learn:
- What indigo is and where it comes from
- How to prepare your indigo dye bath
- The process of dying with indigo
- How to create designs using resists including rubber bands, wood supports and twine
You'll go home with your own indigo shibori dyed bag. The best part? You’ll leave with the confidence to create your own indigo vat at home for loads of fun dyeing projects this summer.
Note: When working with indigo, there is always a possibility your clothes could get stained. We will have aprons and gloves for your protection, but please come wearing something that is not precious, ideally that is short sleeved.
Robin is a staff teacher as well as artist and designer. Last year she initially became intrigued with natural dyes as she could make her own watercolors with them. She climbed deep into the rabbit hole and made over 80 dye pots in the year! The process of making botanical watercolors has many similar properties to naturally dyeing and she’s excited to share the magic with you.
