BYO: Hot Pot at Home

Here is a list of the materials you need for this class!

Serves 4 people

Equipment:

  • Portable Burner and 12-inch diameter Pot that can hold 2-4 liters
    • (substitution: Crockpot or Instant Pot)
  •  Tongs
  •  Small Strainers
  •  Spoons
  •  Chopsticks or forks
  •  Small bowls for dipping sauces

     Ingredients:

    Please feel free to pick and choose the ingredients you want to include in your personal hot pot. 

    • 4 cups chicken broth or bone broth 
      • o Substitution: Vegetable broth
    • 2 pounds thinly sliced beef or pork
      • Look for shabu-shabu cuts
      •  Omit meat if vegetarian
    • 1/2 head of napa cabbage, washed, cut in half, and slice into 2-inch pieces
    • 1 pound of mushrooms
      • Examples: button mushrooms, portobello, shitake, or enoki.
    • 1 pound baby bok choy, washed and cut into 2-inch sections
    • 1/2 pound of a root vegetable, peeled, and cut into 2-inch pieces
      •  Examples: potatoes, daikon, carrots, or lotus roots.
    •  2 ears of corn on the cob, husked and cut into 2-inch segments
    •  3 green onion stalks, sliced into 1/2-inch segments
    •  3 cloves of garlic, minced
    •  8 ounces medium firm tofu, drained, and sliced into 2 inch cubes
    •  8-10 ounces Noodles: an Udon noodle or rice noodle
      • Substitution: Rice
    •  Seafood (Optional)
      • Examples include 1 lb. whole shrimp, fish balls, shrimp balls, or squid)
    • 1/2 pound frozen dumplings (optional)
    • 8 teaspoons Sesame oil
    • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
    • 3-4 slices of ginger
    • Sriracha sauce (optional)
    • Chili oil or chili flakes (optional)
